Amy's Introduces New Cakes

"Everyone will love these cakes, especially warm and topped with ice cream. They’re also delicious with fruit or your favorite non-dairy topping. No one will believe they’re not homemade! Both are organic and vegan to boot.

Orange Cakes (SRP $3.89 - $4.49/11oz)
Typically, Amy would rather have a slice of cheese pizza than dessert, but she can’t resist Amy’s Orange Cake. When she was in high school, Amy would have a piece (made by Susan, Amy’s chef Fred’s sister) in her lunch every day. Amy’s Orange Cake is moist, light and delicious with the sweet taste of orange. Vegan.

Chocolate Cakes (SRP $3.99 - $4.49/11oz)
Amy’s dad, Andy, wears a t-shirt that says, “I would give up eating chocolate but I am no quitter.” Andy grew up eating chocolate cake from his father’s bakery. He describes this new chocolate cake as “rich … moist … light … chocolatey … irresistible.” Vegan.

20 Years of Amy's

"Santa Rosa, CA (PRWEB) May 19, 2008 -- Twenty-one years ago, Amy Berliner was born. The company that became her namesake was founded a few months later, in 1988, by mom Rachel and dad Andy--longtime vegetarians. Amy is now a sophomore in college, and Amy's has become the nation's top-selling brand of natural and organic convenience foods.

"We didn't set out to become the nation's leading natural frozen food brand," says Andy Berliner. "All we wanted to do was create a business that would allow us to earn a living by providing convenient and tasty natural vegetarian meals for people like ourselves, who appreciated good food, but were often too busy to cook from scratch."

Review: Amy's Roasted Vegetable Pocket

I have had a strong aversion to vegetables pretty much my entire life. Sure, I could eat things like potatoes, salads or tomatoes (okay, okay they are botanically a fruit, but they are LEGALLY a vegetable) but other vegetables weren't very appealing to me.

So it came as quite a surprise when I absolutely loved Amy's Kitchen's roasted vegetable pocket. What is this magical product? Why do I even prefer it to cookies? Well..

Amy's says:
"Inspired by Amy's Roasted Vegetable Pizza. The same great tasting combination of organic shiitake mushrooms, roasted red peppers, sweet onions and marinated artichoke hearts."

Shiitake mushrooms? Red peppers? Artichoke hearts? Since when have I ever ventured to eat these things? Since now, I guess. This little pocket is totally satisfying in every way: the flavor and texture are just right, and it leaves you perfectly satiated. Definitely my new favorite thing to eat, especially after writing myself crazy with the amount of school work I have. (I am stocked with roasted vegetable pockets now.)

I'm really happy about it being vegan too because I've been thinking about taking the "plunge." (It's hard to forget how much I like cheese pizza though..)

In short, if you haven't already tried the roasted vegetable pocket or pizza, you are missing out. Seriously. Even if you think you won't like it, just try it. I never imagined I would enjoy it this much.

Amy's Pay Structure

"When state and local economic development practitioners wooed Amy's Kitchen to the Rogue Valley, they repeatedly talked up the wages the organic frozen food purveyor might offer.

Even while economic developers and politicians talked family-wage jobs, Amy's Kitchen representatives were noncommittal and avoided talking specific figures until it came time to hire staff.

While management and skilled positions definitely fit in the realm of family-wage earnings, many hourly wage earners start in the $9-$12 range — not exactly United Auto Workers pay.

"Amy's Kitchen has always said that we pay a competitive wage for the food-processing industry," said Chief Operations Officer Scott Reed in an e-mail. "Others may have characterized our pay structure in different terms but we have been consistent in describing our pay policies as competitive for our industry."

Amy's Grows

"It's been seven months since Amy's Kitchen began production of its organic frozen food lines on Agate Road in White City.

The center of a high-profile tug-of-war between the governors of California and Oregon, Amy's proved to be the coup of the decade for the region's economic developers.

"Amy's Kitchen was ultimately very big," says Ron Fox, who assumed his post as Southern Oregon Regional Economic Development Inc.'s executive director after the Santa Rosa, Calif., company's local expansion was signed and sealed.

"In its early stages I don't think that it was anticipated to be as large as it's become already. Amy's could still be much larger over time as their markets grow and operations expand."

The latest report to cross Fox's desk shows Amy's Kitchen now employs 450.

"That's a very large single-point addition to the region's employment," Fox says.

The questions become: Who will be Southern Oregon's next Amy's Kitchen, and how long will it take to lure such an employer here?"

Amy's Launches New Pizza, Burgers and More!

You know I'm always thrilled when Amy's comes out with new products. Well, today might just be my day. I went to their website and found an array of new products to look forward to.

First, there are the two new veggie burgers: the Bistro Burger and the Quarter Pound Burger. The Bistro Burger is both gluten and dairy-free while the Quarter Pound Burger is strong enough to handle the grill.

Next, there is the new Tortilla Casserole & Black Beans Bowl and the Southern Meal with Cornbread and Beans. The new Bowl is "delicious and might remind you of a bowl of “nachos” made with organic baked corn chips and melted cheddar and jack cheeses. Plus… an assortment of organic vegetables and our own homemade fresh tofu. On the side are delicately seasoned slow-cooked black beans, making this gluten free meal in a bowl thoroughly satisfying." The Southern Meal is a combination of swiss chard and collard greens, mashed sweet potatoes, sweet corn, and pinto beans. Sounds like a great, hearty meal to me!

But, there's still more! There has also been an addition to their great line of pizzas with a Margherita Pizza. "The handstretched crust is thinner than our usual crust, the simple sauce made from organic tomatoes, and best of all is the topping, fresh mozzarella cheese sprinkled with Parmesan and basil. They all combine to create a light, fresh tasting pizza that will delight you."

I know I'll be keeping an eye out for these awesome new products.

Amy's Individual Pizzas

Amy's Kitchen has now added individual pizzas to their product line. A delicious, natural, and partially organic pizza in just the right serving size is exactly what us Amy's lovers needed! (Believe me, with Amy's pizzas, there is always the temptation to eat the ENTIRE full sized pizza.) I'll review it as soon as I can get my hands on it. Yeah, I am WAY too excited.
