"The drop in suppliers follows a trend begun in 2005 and reflects a general reduction in the number of people working in the agricultural sector. Up until two years ago, the number of farmers employing practices friendly to the environment (avoiding the use of pesticides and other chemicals) had grown steadily. Swiss residents are world champions for consumption of organic or “bio” products, as they are known in French. The average annual purchases in Switzerland totaled SFr170 per person last year."
