Bigg's Turns to Nature

"Bigg's, the supermarket chain whose hypermarket formats have lately given to diverse grocery layouts deep in fresh and international foods, has been awarded organic retailer certification for produce by Quality Assurance International (QAI).

The certification, which applies to all of its 12 stores, is the first for a Cincinnati retailer.

Bigg's jumped into organic foods in a big way with the opening of its new-concept Oakley store, in Hyde Park Plaza, in 2005. Since then, it expanded the design, which includes broader selections of wine, prepared foods and more than 200 varieties of organics, to its stores in Mason and at Skytop Pavilion, on Beechmont Avenue, and is in the process on converting the store in Pleasant Ridge. Bigg's current president, Steve Kaczynski, is the former senior vice president of sales and marketing at natural foods grocer Wild Oats."
