Organic Loses Niche?

"IT'S GROCERY SHOPPING TIME, but not just any groceries for you. You scrutinize the minutest flyspeck on the labels, making sure the food you buy is certified organic, additive-, pesticide-, herbicide- and all-other-chemical-free.

Quick question: Are you in a locally based natural/organic foods store such as Puget Consumers Co-op, a national natural-foods chain such as Whole Foods or Trader Joe's, a mainstream grocery chain such as Safeway or Kroger (and its local subsidiaries Fred Meyer and QFC) or a megastore chain such as Wal-Mart?

That the opening-paragraph scenario could be plausibly placed in any of the above retailers is the reason that two stores in the same niche of the grocery business have been allowed to merge."
