Interview with Soleo Organic Sunscreen

"Would you pay $25 for a tube of sunscreen?

Rick Sample and James Urioste, partners in a San Clemente company that markets organic skin-care products, are finding more consumers turning to their product, Soleo.

We asked Sample about it.

Q. Why organic?

A.It allows a person to have a choice to not put chemicals on their body. Anything you put on your skin is going to soak into your body.

Q. Will people pay more for it?

A.Once they understand why they wouldn't want to put a chemical sunscreen on their body and why they would want a clean alternative … price really isn't a barrier. You don't have to convince people to use sunscreens anymore. Everybody is aware of what UV rays do. Sunscreen use is mainstream. The consumer is becoming more aware. The Internet is such a great equalizer. Two years ago, you saw nothing organic in Albertsons. Now there's an organic food section at Albertsons."
