"Steve Burd, president and CEO of Pleasanton supermarket giant Safeway Inc., said his company's O Organics line of foods had sales of $162 million during fiscal 2006.
He made the comments during an interview that appeared in the Chicago Tribune May 5. Burd was also quoted saying Safeway has no plans at this point to sell off its Dominick's division in the Chicago area, after an unsuccessful attempt to do so four years ago.
..Safeway's organic line now includes about 200 products, including a new line of baby products launched this spring. Though company officials are happy with the success of O Organics, it still represents a very small percentage of Safeway's overall sales of $40.2 billion during the last fiscal year."
